Discussion 6
I will use the cross as my object in this discussion. Where are we using the cross? Does some of us know what the cross mean for some religious people? What does it symbolizes? I decided to use the cross as my object, because the cross made a big impact in my life. I grew up in a broken family, my parents got separated when I was 6 years old. I remember, one of our church group member gave me a cross and told me that God is always watching me, wherever I go and whatever I do. I just need to believe that God is with me all the time. Cross is very significant, too, for other people that are very religious. One reason is that, the cross reminds them of the love of God for us. That God the father gave His only son for us to save us from sins. And also, it serves as a reminder that God is always there for us no matter what. It doesn't matter if you are sinner or not. I think the only matter is that we love God and we love our neighbors.

The Wife-Beater
In this reading, the author talked about the sleeveless undershirt that become fashionable in the recent years. He is bothered by the name wife-beater, because it seems like, they are proud that the wife get beat all the time by their husbands. Not only the name that bothers the author, also from the fashion headlines. According to the author, it seems like they want to overthrow '90s grunge and return to shoulder pads and hardware-studded suits. (smith, p. 529). He also mentioned in this readings the statistics of the battered wife and girlfriend, and according to him there are 4 million women are victims of severe assaults by boyfriends and husband each year. The average age of batterer is 31. (smith, p. 529). I don't understand why they think that wearing this shirt makes them feel sexy. What does the shirt has? It seems to me that the man wearing this kind of shirt is patronizing that they are wife-beater and they are proud of it. Is this mean that being a wife-beater makes you attract more women? I don't think so, Because if I am the woman who see that the guy or the men wearing this kind of shirt, I will be scared to death to associate with them, because I don't know what they are capable of doing. Wearing this shirt don't make you look sexy at all. You are trying to insinuate that, you are dangerous and scary to be with. Men that wears this can be violent, who knows. Not unless, you really know the men wearing this, then you can tell if they are harmless or not. It is so hard to trust somebody, now a days, because we really doesn't know what they want for us. Well, we all know that some men are really player - they want to go out with different women. Young or old, I think it doesn't matter at all, as long as they get what they want. We just need to be very careful on who we talk to and associate with because we never know, they can be a wife-beater. Just don't think that wearing this shirt makes them look sexy because we never know what they are really capable of doing. I can't believe that they made shirts for babies, too. They are too small to think what that means in their shirt but once they find out, what are they going to think? In my opinion, they will think that beating a wife or a girlfriend is okay to do, especially if they grown up with the environment that the dad that beats the mom all the time. It is getting really scary! Oh well, we just need to be very careful on who are we associating with because we will never know 'till we are on that situation.

Discussion 3:
In this blog, I will use the word "nice". Where and how we use this word? Why did I choose this word? Who uses this term? Why this term is significant to me? How do other people react in this term?
I work in the hospital and most of the people at work uses this term "nice". We are usually using this word if our patient did something bad or did something good. One example of this is, One of our patient pulled out her PICC (Peripheral Inserted Central Catheter) Line - this is a line that goes directly to the veins in your heart and a place where the intravenous fluids and medications goes. One of the nurses sees it and she said nice. So the patient ended up being confuse if what she did is right or wrong. Hearing the term nice will give them a connotation that, what they did is right. That makes me confuse too sometimes because I am wondering if the nurse was happy of what her patient did or she is just being sarcastic. It's hard to tell on what they are really mean once they said that word not unless you will ask them. I used this word nice in this discussion because I have a special friend back home (Philippines) named Janice and I usually call her "nice". Every time I hear this word reminds me of her. It brings back memories and always put a smile in my face. People at work react in this term every time they hear it because they know that, once the nurses said this word their patient did something bad or sometimes they did something good. One example of the good things that the patient does is, not to get out of bed without help and usually, the nurse will tell them "nice" you did the right thing not to get out of bed by yourself. I hear this term pretty much all the time when i am at work.

Discussion 2:
The speaker made it so funny in the beginning, and at the end of her speech. The words that she used was so easy to understand. You don't need to use a dictionary for you to be able to understand what she wants you to know. She really made her speech clear. She focused mainly on her experiences in life. She started it in the beginning - when she graduate 21 years ago, and on what happened after that. She talked about her plans which she pursue even though her parents didn't let her do it. I remember she said that the parents find out that she was writing on her graduation. She also mentioned that failure is not good. I think if we will use failure as an experience we will do good on everything we want to be, but of course it is not always a bed of roses. The trials and obstacles that we encounter along the way will help us in the future and on how to deal with life, like her experiences. Look where she's at now and we can do the same thing. We just need to focus on what we really wants and work on it. It was very inspiring speech.
